Web 2.0 Tools

Web 2.0 tools are interactive and involve both reading and writing. They can be used to promote collaboration between and among educators and students. They involve users in social networks and participatory culture.  Each of the tools listed below help in delivering communication, facilitating Web-based discussions, or inviting creativity in responding to literature and information.  The section is broken down into types of tools for easier navigation.

Collaborative Brainstorming, Mind-mapping, and Storyboarding Tools

This free online collaborative drawing tool offers a history feature that allows participants (and reviewers) to easily note individual contributions. This tool can be used in a linear fashion for storyboarding.

 Popplet

This free online collaborative tool delivers an interactive way to create concept maps, mind maps, and options to brainstorm or storyboard right along with peers.  The popplets can be constructed, moved, color coded, typed in, drawn in, and have images and videos inserted. 
 

This is a great mindmapping tool that allows users to easily visualize their ideas by connecting various pieces of information together to create free style maps.  It also combines elements like text, images, files, calendar events, and geographic location.

Storify   This is a great tool for collecting together a mixture of web based resources and references into a web based widget that you can then structure into a digital research paper. You can easily pull in comments from Facebook, Twitter or Google searches as well as a range of other social media sources. You then add blocks with your own commentary and reflections. The whole thing can then be embedded into a webpage. This is a great tool for developing digital literacy and referencing online sources.
 
My eBook  This tool allows to you create, publish, and share your novels, cartoons, magazines, photo albums, and brochures. This product has pleasant design features. 
 
Animoto Easy and quick way to make engaging videos.  Choose from a variety of templates, insert your own text, photos, and music or choose from pre-selected ones on the website.  Free accounts allow students to create 30 second videos.  Teachers can sign up for free educator accounts that allow for a limited number of student accounts to create longer videos. 
 
Newspaper Clipping Generator   This site offers an authentic-looking newspaper image generator that has applications in many areas of the curriculum. Images can be downloaded, saved, and printed. 
 Thinglink  Free and user friendly digital tool that provides users with the ability to turn any image into an interactive graphic. Create multiple “hot spots” on specific parts of an image and turn that image into a multimedia launcher. Include video, record audio or provide a link to any website with the click of a button. 
Blabberize  Animate your photos so that they speak or preloaded images.
 Picture a Story The art of storytelling – create and record your story 
 Plotagon  Create an animated movie from just writing a written script. Write your story, choose characters, setting, and music –press play and your movie is done 
 Comicmaster  This is a free, easy to use tool for creating short graphic novels. While the backgrounds and characters are somewhat limited, it's possible to make and print comics at this site without creating an account.
 Timeline Using a Google spreadsheet, create visually appealing, interactive timelines.  Embed videos, photos, text, and more.  
 PixiClip Pixiclip is an interactive whiteboard.  You can upload images, draw sketches, and share the replays.                    
 
Piktochart is an awesome tool to create free, full color, totally customizable infographics.  Why have a boring list of statistics when you can make an infographic?!
